"Spix's Macaw"

 Spix’s macaw is not simply a rare blue parrot. It is unusual because it represents a species-recovery experiment on an extraordinary scale.

The species disappeared from the wild around 2000, leaving captive birds as the only surviving population. The first major reintroduction cohort was released in Brazil in June 2022.
